Abstract
Between january 1994 and December 1995, 36 arterial reconstructions were performed in 33 patients with chronic occlusive disease of lower extremity. Male to female ratio was 28 to 5, and the most prevalent age group was 7th decade. All of the
patients
had some degree of claudication, but in 22 patients other symptoms such as resting pain(30.2%), paresthesia(22.6%), ulcer or gangrene(20.8%) were also presented as a chief complaint. The most common procedure was bypass graft without
endarterectomy(in
19 cases), followed by bypass graft with endarterectomy(in 11 cases) and endarterectomy only(in 6 cases). During that period ranged from 7 to 30 months, 3 cases of graft failure were developed. One of them needed below knee amputation but the
other
two
cases were salvaged by thrombolytic therapy and regraft. Seven postoperative complications including two lymphoceles, two wound hematoma, two longstanding paresthesia and one wound infection were developed but non of them caused graft failure. In
summary, there was an increasing trend of chronic arterial occlusive disease admitted to our hospital recently and their early postoperative results were promising.
